As a licensed psychologist, Gary brings 30+ years of experience to assist clients in overcoming life’s problems. He has worked in psychiatric hospitals, outpatient clinics, and private practice. Gary believes psychotherapy is a collaborative effort between client and therapist. The therapeutic crucible–that is the psychotherapy experience–allows a safe, confidential space to uncover, process, and embrace our most painful experiences. For those with past trauma, processing those experiences can integrate them into a healthier sense of self. Gary understands the primary goals of psychotherapy to be self-acceptance and the regaining and reinforcement of self-autonomy. Freedom from shame, guilt, and self-doubt can be liberating and offers us the chance to live a more meaningful life. As well, emotional suffering and its meaning have the potential to ground us in our lives and create a deeper understanding of the human condition. Gary uses mind-body awareness, emotional deepening, guided meditation, and expressive methods, such as writing poetry.
